A question was asked about who in the library was responsible for several different cataloging related tasks (professionals, para-professionals, or hourly staff) and whether those tasks were completed inside or outside of the traditional cataloging unit. This post and several others include data about specific tasks, separated by the type of academic institution.

Approximately two-thirds of Dublin Core metadata creation is completed in cataloging units and the majority of libraries surveyed said that they do not do any record creation in MODS or METS. Those that do create MODS/METS records are similar to Dublin Core in that two-thirds of this work is done within the cataloging unit.
